In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which recently devastated Florida and much of the southeastern U.S., the Ocean Renewal Project has been working tirelessly to assist with cleanup efforts. These powerful storms not only destroyed homes and infrastructure, but they also littered Florida’s beaches, waterways, and coastal areas with immense amounts of debris. Our team, in collaboration with local authorities and volunteers, has been focusing on clearing debris from critical shorelines and ensuring these ecosystems are restored to their natural beauty.
Our crews have been using specialized equipment and boats to safely remove large objects, such as uprooted trees, shattered docks, and wreckage from sunken vessels, which pose significant threats to both marine life and navigation. By removing hazardous materials from the ocean floor, we are protecting coral reefs, preventing further damage to underwater habitats, and helping fish populations recover. Additionally, our beach cleanup efforts have mobilized hundreds of volunteers to clear litter, plastic, and microplastics, restoring the pristine environment that Florida’s coastal wildlife depends on for survival.
While this cleanup process is far from over, the Ocean Renewal Project remains committed to aiding in Florida’s recovery. We will continue deploying our boats and teams to reach hard-hit areas, working hand-in-hand with local residents and organizations to rebuild both the natural environment and the communities that rely on it. The resilience of the coast is a testament to the power of collective effort, and with continued support, we will ensure Florida’s beaches and waters are restored to their pre-storm vitality.
